Janeris Kay McKown

Funeral Services at First Baptist Church, Walters, Friday, July 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Roger Noland Officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.

Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6-8 pm. Viewing from 2-4pm on Wednesday and 9-8pm on Thursday. Memorial Donations can be made to the Cancer Center of Duncan or the Walters Cemetery Association.

 

 

 

 

Janeris Kay McKown was born to Bryant Olen and Aurora Juanita (Anderson) McKown on October 12, 1953 in Walters, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on July 2, 2018 at the age of 64 years, 8 months and 20 days.

 

Janeris grew up at Walters through 10th grade, moving to Velma in March of 1969 where she graduated from Velma-Alma High School in the Class of 1971. She worked from 1974 to 1983 at Sun Oil and then at Oklahoma Mortgage for a year from 1984 to 1985. In February of 1985 Janeris landed a job with Cotton Electric as a meter reader until 1994 when she became night dispatcher for the company, retiring in April of 2016.

 

Through the years she enjoyed golfing, watching golf, fishing, yardwork, OU Football, OU Boys and Girls Basketball and Softball. She also enjoyed playing softball on her dad’s team, watching her granddaughter play softball and of course Thunder Basketball.

 

She was preceded in death by her father, Bryant McKown; her grandparents, Other and Jesse (Glasgow) McKown, Elmer and Alma (Hudson) Anderson; her great grandmother, Maude McKee; and her beloved cat of 18 and a half years, Prissi.

 

Survivors include her mother, Aurora McKown of Velma; 2 daughters, Celeste Jensen and husband Doug of Velma, and Charisa Garison and Tim King of Walters; a brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Sandy McKown of Duncan; 5 granddaughters, Shaylee Jensen of Velma, Aubrey Nance and husband Nick of Bixby, Kristi Thornton and husband Scott of Empire, OK, Brittany Honeycutt and husband Milton of Randlett and Malika King of Walters; a grandson, Trace King and wife Brandi of Randlett; 7 great grandchildren, Kylee and Kreed Thornton, Ryker and Mrie Nance, Malia King, Mason and Brantley Honeycutt; other relatives and a host of friends.
