Royce Bowers

Graveside Services at the Temple Cemetery, Temple, OK, Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 12:00 Noon with Full Military Honors, Rev. Christy Clark officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple.

 

 

 

Royce Eldon Bowers was born to Clifford Lee and Neva Mae (Gower) Bowers on February 6, 1934 at Randlett, OK and departed this life in Oklahoma City, OK on June 26, 2018 at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 20 days.

 

Royce grew up at Temple, OK, graduating from TH S in 1952. He then joined the United States Air Force of which he made a career. He served in Rapid City, SD, Beale AFB in California, and then to Shreveport, LA, then overseas as he was a Vietnam Veteran. He eventually returning to Altus AFB, then to Canada before retiring with 26 years in 1978 at Gulfport, MS.

 

Following his proud military career, he went to work for DuPont in Mississippi. Upon retirement from DuPont he returned to Oklahoma, settling in Moore in 1990. Due to failing health he moved near family at Ponca City and eventually onto the VA Center in Clinton for the past 6 years.

 

Royce grew up attending First United Methodist in Temple. Through the years he enjoyed riding motorcycles and was in a Trike Club in Mississippi. He was always willing to meet the challenge of a new sales venture and enjoyed making jewelry and belt buckles.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Royce Bowers II.

 

Survivors include his wife Fern Bowers of Winder, GA; 3 daughters, Gail Garrison of Newcastle, OK, Alberta Reed of Florida and Carol Sherman of Ohio; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Gerald Bowers and wife Jean of Ponca City, OK, George Bowers and wife Jereda of Temple; a sister, LaRue Broyles and husband Bobby of Ft. Worth, TX; nieces and nephews; nieces and nephew, Roger Bowers, Cindy Hayes, Juliet Simpson, Joie Bigford, Susan Fulcher and Jennifer Sanders; other relatives and friends.
