Geary Curtis

Geary Stanton Curtis was born to Sidney Stanton and Etha Mae (Rose) Curtis on July 6, 1938 at Tipton, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on May 24, 2018 at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 18 days.

 

Geary grew up in the Wilson/Weaver area near Frederick, OK before the family moved south of Geronimo, OK around 1949. He graduated from Geronimo High School in 1956, then attended Cameron College before finishing his bachelor degree at Southwestern in Weatherford. Geary went to work at Herbs in Lawton during college and continued his business career with Coca Cola, Hanover Foods, Melitta and Marylin Coffee Companies, and marketed insect repellent for Cutter.

 

Most of his working years where spent in the Marietta, GA area with his wife, Gay Whitson Curtis, whom he married on May 26, 1972. There, he also drove a bus for special Olympics and was a member of the Civitan Club for several years. Upon retirement he made his way back to Cotton County, OK in 2012 to be near his sister in Walters.

 

Geary was a member of First Baptist Church in Walters since childhood. He enjoyed coyote hunting through the years when visiting back home. He also enjoyed participating in their monthly family outings held for the past 6 years. He had a special relationship with a great niece that involved mailing Mr. Potato Head and cow patties as well.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 infant brothers; and his sister, Mary Lois Lewis.

 

Survivors include his sister, Nona Greenfield of Walters, OK; 7 nieces and nephews, Stanley Greenfield of Lawton, Shirley Rowland of Altus, Marina Gower of Norman, John Stanton Lewis, Darrell Lewis, Charles Lewis and Sherry Phillips all of Geronimo; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
