Eleanor Marjorie Deeming Dolman, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 31, 2018. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Richard Arthur Dolman. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Dolman Webb and her husband, Roy; her son, Paul Harold Dolman and his wife, Audrey; grandchildren, Jessica Lauren Dolman, Keith Henry Webb, Logan Arthur Webb and Kelsey Elizabeth Dolman; sister in-law, LaMonte Spier Dolman; nephew, Denver Dolman; nieces, Linda Dolman Moore and Cindy Yielding Donovan; and several cousins.
Eleanor was born on April 19, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois at the beginning of the Great Depression as the only child of Albert Victor Deeming and Ruth Evelyn Landhy Deeming. At age 15, she earned her pilot's license. Later, she and two girlfriends purchased a small airplane called an Aeronca Champion and flew together over the countryside. She would go on to teach many soldiers and airmen, returning from the Korean War how to fly. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Illinois. She went on to become an airline stewardess, where she met her pilot husband, Richard. Later, while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force, they moved around the country many times with their two children before settling in Richmond, Va. in 1970. There, she became a Henrico County social worker for adoptions and foster children.
Eleanor was a member of her bridge club in Sandston for over 40 years. She also enjoyed antiquing and estate sales and always had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs and cats. In reflecting on her life, Eleanor most valued being a good wife, mother and grandmother. The family would like to thank the staff of Beth Sholom Lifecare Community for their compassionate care of Eleanor.
