Glenda Garison

March 20, 1940 — February 14, 2018

Memorial Service at Calvary Baptist Church, Walters, Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Charlie Kriss and Philip Beard officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Viewing will be held Friday, February 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial Donations can be made to the Baptist Home for Girls, 13976 Anthony Ln., Madill, OK 73446.

 

 

 

Glenda Fern (Thomas) Garison was born to Lester L. and Meral F. (Costen) Thomas on March 20, 1940, west of Walters, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on February 14, 2018 at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 25 days.

 

Glenda grew up in the Ahpeatone community west of Walters, graduating from Ahpeatone High School in 1957. As a young adult she made her home at Walters. She married James Lee Garison on May 28, 1971 at Thornberry, TX. They soon built a new home west of Walters in the Emerson community in 1972. She worked for Southwestern Bell for many years, retiring as the business office supervisor.

 

Glenda grew up attending Emerson Baptist Church and later Calvary Baptist Church in Walters where she enjoyed singing and serving as pianist. While attending Ahpeatone School she loved playing basketball and later enjoyed watching it. She was a member of the McDowell Club and also enjoyed doing genealogy.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Meral Thomas, and her husband James Garison in 2007.

 

Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Bob Quickle of Walters; her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Shanci Garison, of Atoka and their family, Glenda’s grandson Conner Garison and Emily of Jacksonville, FL, granddaughter Abby Garison of Atoka and grandson Cody Garison of Atoka; her son Brad Garison of Walters and his family, Glenda’s granddaughter Aubrey Nance and Nick of Bixby, OK, great grandson Ryker Nance and great granddaughter Mrie both of Bixby; 2 stepsons and their boys, David Garison of Interlachen, FL and his son Andrew, Joe Dan Garison of Wichita Falls, TX and his son, Gabriel; other relatives and friends.
