October 18, 1932 — December 17, 2017

Funeral Services at the Church of Christ, Walters, Wednesday, December 20 at 1:30 p.m. with burial in the Cement Cemetery to follow. Don Crow officiating with Eulogy by Jay Driskill under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.

Lois Lorene (Newey) Lafferty was born to John Thomas and Allie Mae (Morton) Newey on October 18, 1932 at Lindsay, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on December 17, 2017.

Lorene grew up in the Lindsay area, graduating from Hughes Consolidated east of Lindsay. She attended business school and was employed at CIT Loan Company in Oklahoma City. She married Robert C. “Bob” Lafferty on May 11, 1954 in Fletcher, OK and they enjoyed 63 years together as husband and wife.

Lorene made the decision to obtain a degree from Cameron College with majors in Secondary Math and Science Education, and in Elementary Education. She wanted to teach in Elementary Ed and did so for 30 years at Geronimo, and taught over 25 of those years there without missing a day. Cameron College recognized her ability, love and dedication to the teaching field and had Cameron student teachers training under her nearly every semester she taught.

Lorene was a devoted wife and mother. She fixed supper every night and it was fit for a king. She would question and interrogate Bob and the boys and then straighten them out in a loving way because she wanted them to be Christian men of good conduct. Sunday was her favorite day. She would arise early, get ready and fix breakfast, then get the boys and Bob ready for church. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and was a dedicated servant to her family, church and school. She loved her kids and grandkids, as well as her 3 brothers and sister, all of her nieces, nephews and cousins, and liked to visit them all whenever possible.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, John B., her brother, John Jr., sisters-in-law Kennetha Newey and Gladys Newey, and a niece, Rhonda Hall.

She is survived by her husband, Bob, of the home; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Robert C. Lafferty, Jr. and Lesa of Indiahoma, OK, and Bill Lafferty and Jane of Anadarko, OK; 4 grandchildren, Ashton Want and husband Carey of San Marcus, TX, Austin Lafferty of Dallas, TX, Chase Lafferty of Indiahoma, Lauren Matlock and husband Dexter of Indiahoma; a great grandson, Dax Matlock; 2 brothers, Bill Newey of Lindsay, OK and Kenneth Newey of Midwest City; a sister, Janice Ward and husband Gary of Checotah; her uncle, Bob Morton of Blanchard; other relatives and friends.
