Funeral Services at the Church of Christ, Walters, OK, Monday, November 20 at 2:00 p.m. with Mario Pineda and Bill F. Crow officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Interment in the Walters Cemetery. Visitation at Hart-Wyatt on Sunday evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Church of Christ, Ladies Bible Class, P.O. Doris Elaine (Almand) Crow was born June 20, 1945 at Waxahachie, TX to Arthur Bernice and Alline Francis (Thedford) Almand and departed this life at her home in Walters, OK on November 16, 2017 at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 27 days.
Doris grew up in the Dallas, TX, area and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1963. She then attended Southeastern State College in Durant, OK and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1967. She began teaching kindergarten at Hartshorne, TX and then moved to Anadarko, OK teaching 6th and 7th grade social studies from 1969 to 1977. She then taught the 4th grade at Geronimo, OK from 1977 until her retirement in 1989.
Through the years she was also a homemaker, provided care for her mother-in-law and took care of her grandkids. Doris also wrote articles on the church and area history for the Walters Herald. She has been an active member of the Church of Christ for many years, teaching Sunday School and making the church bulletin. She was an artist and a member of the Cotton County Art Council, winning numerous awards. She also enjoyed genealogy, photography, reading, traveling, spending time on the computer. Doris enjoyed spending time with her family and loved her kids and grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Donnie Crow in 2001; her brother, James Wesley Almand; and her sister, Sandra Kay Borden.
Survivors include her husband, Don, of the home; 4 children, son Michael Hardy and wife Laida of Naperville, IL, daughter Jamie L. Johnson of Lawton, daughter Suzanne Marie Bremer of Denver, CO and son Jonathan Louis Crow of Minot, ND; 4 grandchildren, Kevin Merel Crow and Casey Don Crow both of Walters, Jimmy Buckley of Ft. Morgan, CO and Dylan Hardy of Naperville, IL; her step-mother, Lillie Mae Almand of Mabank, TX; 2 brothers and 4 sisters, Gene Ray Almand, John Paul Almand, Alice Faye Smitherman, Virginia Beth Applin, Debra Annette Mosley and Teresa Louise Jennings; 2 brothers-in-law and their wives, Bill Crow and Sherry, Kent Crow and Donna; other relatives and many friends.
