Funeral services Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel, Walters, OK, Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with burial in the Temple Cemetery, Temple, OK.

 

Kenneth Andrew Powers Jr., “Andy,” was born on January 23, 1943, to Kenneth Andrew Sr. and Velva Jo (Kindsfather) Powers and died June 12, 2017 at his home in Whitewright, TX, at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Andy grew up mostly in Walters, OK and attended Walters Schools, graduating from WHS in May of 1960. He then attended Weaver Airline Personnel School, receiving a diploma in May of 1961in Airline Operations-Reservations.

Andy joined the United States Airforce and was on active duty for 4 years from December 1961 to December 1965. He was in the United States Airforce Reserves for two more years, discharging in December of 1967.

He married to Betty Lou McIlhaney on June 25, 1962 at Wichita Falls, TX. Andy went to work for Texas Instruments in February of 1966. Later TI became TI/Raytheon and then Raytheon took over the Defense part of the company and Andy continued on in the Environmental testing Lab. He was responsible for all the Calibrations that came in and left the lab. He worked there for over 45 years.

As a younger man Andy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and skiing with friends and family. His main hobby was taking care of his lawn. He loved to have a well-manicured lawn with no weeds. He kept the greenery cut and trimmed year round. He loved to have family gatherings and attending family gatherings. He enjoyed his family very much.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; a brother, Ronnie Powers; and a grandson, John Paul Freer.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty Powers of Whitewright, TX; a son Tory Todd Powers and wife Tammy of Howe, TX and their child, granddaughter –Samantha; a daughter Paula DeAnne Freer and husband Victor of Blue Ridge, TX and their children: Grandson – Brandon Lee Freer and wife Kara of Sanger, Texas and their three children Brynlee, Eastyn, and Brayden. Granddaughter – Jessica Lauren Freer and her 3 children, Chloe, Andrew, and Paislee of Blue Ridge, TX; his sister, Joy Powers Dudley, of Van, Texas; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and a very sweet mother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
