Robert K. Thacker, 81, Duncan, OK

Graveside Services with full Military Honors at the Walters Cemetery, Walters, OK, Saturday, May 13 at 11:00 a.m. with Tommy Howell officiating. Viewing will be held at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters on Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV)

Robert Kenneth Thacker was born to John Robert and Anne Louise (Smith) Thacker on February 18, 1936 at Stokesdale, NC and departed this life in Sulphur, OK on May 10, 2017 at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 22 days.

Robert grew up at Greensboro, NC. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and served 2 tours to Korea and 2 tours to Vietnam. He married Rita Jane Philpott on July 6, 1962 at Walters. They moved with the military several times to include travels to Okinawa Japan, Italy and Germany. The family settled in Duncan, OK in 1969 as Robert neared the completion of a 20 career with the Army. Soon after retiring in 1973 he began working at Halliburton in Duncan, staying with the company for 15 years.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Disabled Veteran RV Club, and the couple were avid RV’ers, traveling to 48 United States and Canada.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Elizabeth Jane Thacker.

Survivors include his wife Rita J. Thacker of Duncan; daughter and son-in-law, Debora A. Mortensen and John of Newcastle, OK; son and daughter-in-law, Robert K. Thacker, Jr. and Mary Margaret of Edmond, OK; sister and brother-in-law, Carol J. (Thacker) Newman and Jimmy; 6 grandchildren, Leigh, Kendall, Amber, Aaron, Trevor and Meghan; 13 great grandchildren; a niece and nephew, Charlotte Newman and Patrick Newman; other relatives and a host of friends.
