Wanda Scherler, 87, Edmond, OK
Wanda Mae (Thomas) Scherler was born at home in western Cotton County, OK, January 18, 1930 to Myrton and
Bessie (Brinkley) Thomas with Beulah Mae Brinkley serving as midwife. Wanda passed peacefully into the arms
of God on April 10, 2017 at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 23 days in Oklahoma City after a brief illness.
Wanda grew up in NW Cotton County OK near the farm of her grandfather Frank Thomas which was purchased during the Big Pasture opening in 1906. She attended Cache Valley School through 2nd grade till it closed, she then went to Ahpeatone School and graduated as valedictorian of senior class in 1947. Wanda attended 3 semesters at Cameron A & M Junior College in Lawton. Wanda made a public profession of faith to the Lord as a young teenager while attending Ahpeatone Baptist Church and later moved her membership to Walters First Baptist Church where was active member till she moved to Oklahoma City to be close to her sons in 2004.
Wanda met the love of her life at Ahpeatone School and married Don Scherler on September 8, 1948. They farmed in Ahpeatone Community all their life. Wanda and Don had two sons, Richard Don (Nov 18, 1951) and Mack David (Oct 8, 1954). Wanda went to work at Shepard Air Force Base in April 1956 and 30 years later she retired in May 1986. She worked in accounting and finance for 15 years and purchasing and contracting till she retired. Don passed away Oct 11, 1998 and she lived in the home till 2004.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother (Joe Frank) and sister (Oma Jean), her husband Don, her brother Alfred Thomas and her daughter-in law Cathy Ann Gandy-Scherler.
Wanda is survived by her sister Charlotte Brock, Norman; sons Richard Don and Mack David of Edmond; two grandchildren Jason Scherler of Edmond and Jennifer Scherler-Breashears and husband Brian; and great grandson Gunnar David Breashears of Oklahoma City.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Walters, OK on April 15, 2017 at 10:00 am. Interment in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters, OK.
