Funeral Services at the First Christian Church, Walters, Wednesday, February 1 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Jeff Hooser Officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery. Visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Memorial Donations may be made to the First Christian Church, 119 E. California, Walters, OK 73572.

Evelyn Dee Sanderson was born to Richard Arba and Ruby Dee (Lanham) Phillips on August 6, 1933 at Waurika, OK and departed this life in Walters, OK on January 29, 2017 at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 23 days.

Evelyn grew up in Waurika, OK, where she graduated from high school in 1951. She had married Leon Jackson “Jack” Sanderson on September 3, 1950 at Waurika and to the union 3 children were born. They called Waurika their home through Jack’s service in the Korean War, then moved the family to Walters, OK, in April of 1956 and has made it home since that time. Evelyn worked in the ASC office, then at the school for a time before beginning a 27 year career as secretary to the Assistant District Attorney, the first being Hugh Fitzsimons followed by 6 others. She retired from the Cotton County Courthouse in 1997.

Evelyn was a longtime member of the First Christian Church. She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, eating out, reading and doing hand crafts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack, in 2001; and her brother, Richard Howard Phillips.

She is survived by 2 sons and a daughter, Steven Leon Sanderson of Walters, Keith Sanderson and wife Liz of Wichita Falls, TX, and Karen Dee Sanderson of Walters; 4 granddaughters and husbands, Grace Akbar of Tahlequah, OK, Sandee Sanderson of Chandler, OK, Jackilyn and Zac Brown of Austin, TX, Charity and Justin Gossett of Wichita Falls, TX; 7 great grandchildren, Preston, Cole, Legend, Hayden, Avery, Elijah and Isaiah; other relatives and many friends.
