Funeral Service at First United Methodist Church, Temple, OK, Wednesday, February 24 at 2:00 p.m., Daryl Perry officiating. Burial in the Temple Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple.

 

 

 

James Lindsey “Jim” Henderson was born to Verneil Samuel and Marquerite Frances (Whitten) Henderson on April 7, 1954 at Artesia, NM and departed this life in Temple, OK on February 20, 2016 at the age of 61 years, 10 months and 13 days.

 

Jim grew up at Artesia where he attended high school until moving to Temple with his family in 1970. He graduated from Temple High School in 1972. The next year he married Shari Jane Casteel on July 5, 1973 and to the union 2 sons, Jim Bob and Jody Glenn were born. He worked for Metal Span for a couple of years before going to work in the meter shop at Cotton Electric in 1975. While there he also worked as a lineman and later as Manager of Accounts for a total of 15 years. He then worked for Harold Powell and farmed for himself as well for a time before operating Temple Tag and Farmers Insurance from 2000 to 2012 when his health began to fail.

 

Jim played the violin, thanks to his mother driving him to Roswell, NM, for lessons and he used it for many years playing in several bands to include: Jim Casteel & Backroads Band, Ronnie Huitt & Restless Country Band, Bo Hearn & the Armadillo Express Band at the Lawton VFW. He also enjoyed talking to the guys on Ham Radio, doing metal detecting and motorcycling. When he was younger he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

 

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Verneil and Marguerite; his son, Jody Glenn Henderson; and his sister, Margaret Belle (Henderson) Giles.

 

Survivors include his wife, Shari Jane Henderson, of the home; his son, Jim Bob of Temple, OK; 2 grandsons, Andrew James Henderson and Zachary Ryan Henderson of Burkburnett, TX; a granddaughter, Gracee Owen Morton Henderson of McKinney, TX. His grandkids were such a treasure to him and he loved them with all his heart. Jim is also survived by 3 brothers and a sister, John Whitten Henderson and wife Gina of Falcon, CO, Charles William Henderson and wife Lillian of Peyton, CO, Samuel Verneil Henderson and wife Laura of Owasso, OK, and Patricia Ann McCurry of Lawton, OK; 3 brothers-in-law, Jim Paul Casteel and wife Mischa of Sachse, TX, Roy Jack Casteel and wife Kim of Temple, and Joe Giles of Temple; 14 nieces and nephews, Warren “Toby” Henderson, Bobby Henderson, Adam, Martin and Katelynn Henderson, Dusty, Jenny, and Sam Henderson and wife Rachel, Randy Roper, Tommy McCurry, Joe Giles, Patricia Giles Davis, Carry Casteel Gooch and husband Jon, Jay Casteel, Tuffy Joe “T.J.” Casteel and wife Rebba, and Cason Casteel; many great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
