Marvin Moore

Funeral Services at the Church of the Nazarene, Walters, Tuesday, November 24 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Paul Metcalfe officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home. Burial in the Walters Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial Donations can be made to the Walters Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 485, Walters, OK 73572  


Marvin Matthew Moore was born January 7, 1922 at Corum, OK to W.O. and Minnie Ann (Street) Moore and departed this life in Lawton, OK on November 21, 2015 at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 14 days.   Marvin attended South Mountain View School, graduated from Walters High School and then entered the Seabees, serving his country honorably in the South Pacific during WWII. Following the war he returned to Walters where he married Eugenia Louise Mershon on June 16, 1946 at the First Christian Church. He was engaged in farming in the Walters area for many years.  

Marvin was an elder in the Christian Church. He built and operated Christmas decorations for 45 years at his home, ending his display in 2003. He sold fireworks for 53 years and served on the Walters Cemetery Board for over 25 years. He was named Citizen Emeritus in 2003 and had also been named an Honorary 4-H Member. Marvin was a faithful Red Cross Blood donor for many years and was also proud that he and his family had served as a Host Family for the People to People program.   

Survivors include 3 children and spouses, Mike Mershon Moore and Marcia of Edmond, Linda Thompson and Gary of Walters, Margaret Ann Kinder and Jimmy of Walters; his grandchildren and spouses, David and Kathryn Moore, Edmond, Natalie and Dewey Torbett, Oklahoma City, Christy and Gabriel Arellano, Walters, Laura and Jerrad Blackford, Altus, Courtney and Steve Solstad, McKinney, TX, Cara and Daryl Smith, Sherman, TX, Chas Gibson, Temple, Brad and Lorraine Kinder of Fort Leonardwood, MO, Bryson Kinder, Stillwater, and Whitney Kinder, Stillwater; 15 great grandchildren; a special friend, Dorothy Kohout; many other relatives and friends.   

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Moore; his parents, W.O. and Minnie Ann Moore; 2 brothers, Ether Moore and Wilford Moore; and an infant sister, Claudie Mae Moore.
