Melba Irvin, 93, of Walters, OK Funeral Services at the Church of Christ in Walters, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., Don Crow officiating with burial in the Temple Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home. Melba Florence (Smith) Irvin was born to Millard Franklin and Willie Mae (Haney) Smith on February 15, 1921 at Granbury, TX and departed this life in Walters, OK on November 2, 2014 at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 18 days. Coming from Texas with her family at a young age, Melba grew up at Temple, OK where she graduated from high school. She married Donald Dewayne Irvin on June 6, 1947 at the Church of Christ in Temple, making their home at Walters. She was a homemaker, but also worked at Cotton Electric, Pearson Funeral Home, Parrish Insurance, a bank at Temple, and fostered several children. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, camping, going to the mountains, reading, and watching ice skating, tennis, golf, OU and Dallas Cowboy football on TV. She also liked sitting in the porch swing, enjoying the outdoors. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dewayne; her son, Mahlard Irvin; and a brother, Leroy Smith. Survivors include 2 children, Marla Stapp and Kendall Irvin both of Walters; a daughter-in-law, Leslie Irvin; a brother, Eldred Smith and wife Mary of Artesia, NM; 4 grandchildren, Robyn Branstetter of Lubbock, TX, Brandon Irvin of Moore, OK, Brady Stapp of Walters and Taylor Moyer of Lawton; 1 great grandson, Baylin Branstetter of Lubbock; other relatives and friends.
