George Monroe Kindred

October 7, 1930 — September 13, 2014

George Monroe Kindred was born to John B. and Bertha Nel (Hall) Kindred on October 7, 1930 in the Taylor Store Community southwest of Temple, OK and departed this life on September 13, 2014 in Wichita Falls, TX at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 6 days. George grew up at Temple and joined the U.S. Army after his junior year of high school. He served his country honorably for 4 years and is a Korean War Veteran. He married Clovis L. Crow on May 18, 1950 at Wichita Falls, TX. Upon his discharge the couple made their home at Duncan where he was employed as a welder at Halliburton. While there the two children, Donnie and Dianne, were born. They returned to Temple in 1964 and then moved on to Coffeeville, KS in 1974. After a short stop at Davis, OK, George retired from Halliburton with 35 years as a welder and supervisor, making their way back to Temple in 1986. George was a member of First Baptist Church in Temple where he served through the years as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He enjoyed wood working, yard work, gardening and taking care of his cattle. He had a servant's heart and was faithful to visit the sick in the hospital. He also enjoyed taking the men of Temple to doctor appointments and was a handyman for the town ladies. He was instrumental in putting together the Veterans Memorial in the Temple Cemetery, had served as Lions Club President and served on the City Council and as Mayor of Temple. He was preceded in death his parents; 3 brother, Gene, Joe and Pete Kindred; 2 sisters, Wilma Lewis and Ruby Riddles; and a great granddaughter, Trinity Dawn Dobson. Survivors include his wife, Clovis, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Sharon Kindred of Woodward, OK; a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and James Smith of Temple; 3 brothers, Jack Kindred of Chickasha, OK, Freddie Kindred of Ft. Worth, TX and Jimmy Kindred of Andrews, TX; 3 sisters, Ruth Smith of Burleson, TX, Lois Williams of Duncan, OK and Pat Robbs of Geronimo, OK; 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Jody and Jennifer Kindred of Longview, TX, Jason and Jennifer Kindred of Moore, OK, Jennifer and Aaron Henson of Frederick, OK, Jaymie and Ron Childers of Woodward, OK; 8 great grandchildren, Dalton Kindred, Brooklynn Kindred, Cainaan Smith, Cooper Henson, Lucy Henson, Michael Dobson, Kaylee Dobson and Jacee Childers; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
