Thelma Irene Smith

Thelma Smith, 98, of Walters, OK Thelma Irene Smith was born January 9, 1916 at Cement, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on July 5, 2014 at the age of 98 years, 5 months and 26 days. Thelma grew up at Lawton, OK. She married Dale Allen Smith on October 7, 1935 at Kingfisher, OK and to the union two children were born. The couple moved to Walters in 1937 where they owned and operated a gas business for many years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the First United Methodist Church in Walters. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Citizens Center. She was always a tremendous supporter of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, on December 29, 1994; her mother, Jessie Brown and step-father, Bill Brown. Survivors include her son, Alan Smith and daughter-in-law, Penny of Walters; her daughter, Patti (Smith) Scattergood of Waxahachie, TX; 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
