Alan Dean “Smitty” Smith was born to Dale Allen and Thelma Irene (Woody) Smith on October 5, 1958 in Lawton, OK and departed this life in Walters, OK on January 11, 2024 at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 6 days.
Alan grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1976. Growing up with a dad in the LPG business, Alan became a propane inspector in the Capitol area of Oklahoma City. He then moved to Sonora, CA, continuing in the propane inspection business. He returned to Walters in the early 1990’s to help his dad. He soon put in a mini storage and mechanic shop along with doing the propane business.
Alan was a pilot and enjoyed helping others learn to fly. He loved flying more than anything. He was a Star Trek “Trekkie.” He grew up taking things apart and putting them back together, so he has always enjoyed fixing things. He liked helping others and loved working on his classic cars. Alan enjoyed watching Discovery and National Geographic documentaries about WWII, as his dad was a glider pilot during the war.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife Penny Wilson of the home; 4 children, Dale Smith and Christi of Logansport, IN, Whitney Bryant and Scott of Oklahoma City, Madison Wilson of Appleton, MN, Chris Avian and Kayleigh of Lakeland, FL; 6 grandchildren, Marley, Nova, Paul, Penny, Kairi and Ami; his sister Patti Smith Scattergood of Walters; other relatives and friends.
