Avis Marie Wood Tinsley, 92, passed away on August 16, 2026, at Temple Manor in Temple, Oklahoma.

She was born March 18, 1934, in Devol, Oklahoma, to Avis and Ernest Wood. She was one of ten children.

Avis served in the United States Air Force as a medical specialist. During her military service, she met Raymond Jefferson Tinsley. They were married on April 28, 1953, and shared 45 years of marriage before his death in 1998.

During their years together, Avis and Raymond lived in Bermuda, Illinois, Texas, Hawaii, and Missouri before eventually returning to Oklahoma and settling in Devol.

Avis later worked as a Realtor. She eventually left her career to care for her mother and later cared for her husband. Family remained an important part of her life, and she also helped care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the years.

Avis was the mother of five children and grandmother of nine. Her family grew to include 21 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren, with two additional great-great-grandchildren expected later this year.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Jefferson Tinsley; her children, Frankie Tinsley, Clyde Tinsley, and Joanie Harris; her grandchildren, Ricky Harris and Renee Martin; great-grandchild Alexis Cercerez; great-great-grandchild Sadee Martin; her parents, Avis and Ernie Wood; and several of her siblings.

She is survived by her children, Judy Bonds and Tom Tinsley, both of Devol, Oklahoma; her sister, Judy Wood; her brother, Jack Wood and his wife, Pat; as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members.

Funeral Service at Devol First Baptist Church, Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Justin Cardwell officiating with burial in the Devol Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Hart-Wyatt Chapel in Walters.
