Barbara Janette (Swinford) Sauerman was born February 20, 1937 at Walters, OK to Charles Randolph and Ruth Vesta (Slimp) Swinford and departed this life at Duncan, OK on November 2, 2025 at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 13 days.
Barbara grew up at Walters. She married Bobby Glenn in 1954 and to this union 4 children were born. They made their home in Walters, Altus, Lawton and Chickasha. While living in Lawton she worked at Aetna Financial for a time, then hired on as a security clerk with Civil Service at Fort Sill.
After retiring from Fort Sill, Barbara began doing mission work beginning in Sand Springs, OK, helping set up Dayspring Shelter. She then went on a mission to West Virginia doing clerical work at a school. She returned home for a time before going to American Samoa doing clerical work in a Baptist school. She then served as the director of the Mesa Arizona Baptist Food and Clothing Bank. Barbara also went on mission trips to Europe, working mostly in France but also spending time in other countries. She also did a mission trip to parts of Africa.
She enjoyed her years of serving in the mission field. She also enjoyed sewing, riding horses and playing the piano. She loved traveling and her favorite place to visit was Hawaii. She was a member of Cameron Baptist Church in Lawton.
Barbara married Harvey Erman for a time making their home in Carnegie and Arizona. She later married James Sauerman, working in missions together until moving to the Central High Community where they lived until his passing in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 daughters, Kristie Rush and Candy Vaughn; and a granddaughter, Dusti Glenn.
Survivors include her daughter, Deb and Randy Lofland of Duncan; her son, Doug and Kim Glenn of Cache, OK; a stepson, Bret Erman and Christina of Carnegie, OK; a stepdaughter, Wray Jean Shavez; a brother, Kent “Sug” Swinford of Lawton; 2 sisters, Stella Somerlot of Duncan and Neita Wood of Geronimo; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
