Bertha Lois Barnes was born to Grady Roy Boyd and Bertha Castero (Kennedy) Boyd, October 14, 1934, in Sugden, Oklahoma and departed this life, in Hastings, Oklahoma, at the age of 90 years, 5 months, 22 days.

Bertha, or “Bert” as she liked to be called, grew up in Sugden and Hastings, as well as spending a few years in California. Bert graduated high school at Sugden, OK after moving back from California, then settled in Hastings, OK.

Bert’s first job was with the telephone company as a telephone operator, first at Wichita Falls, TX then at Waurika, OK. She married Ernest Russell Barnes, August 7, 1953 at the Methodist Church in Hastings, OK and to the union 3 children were born, Kenneth, Florence, and Howard. Bert and Ernest were married 60 years before his passing.

Although she was mostly a housewife, she did work at the Haggar factory, bank, and grocery store at Temple, OK. Bert’s hobbies included sewing, cooking, gardening, as well as spending time with her kids, grandkids, and other family members. She always loved the occasional trips to the lake, camping, & fishing. Bert enjoyed reading her bible and attending the Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Russell Barnes; her parents, Grady Roy & Bertha Castero Boyd; her brothers & sisters, Arvile Grady Boyd, Victor Roy Boyd, Arbrey Joe Boyd, Kenneth Edward Boyd, Nell June Franklin, & Jacqueline Ruth Boyd.

Bert is survived by her brothers and sisters, Clarence Wesley Boyd, Jimmie Wayne Boyd, Drucillla Louise Smith, & Gladys Ira Duncan; her children, Kenneth and wife Angie, Florence and husband Ryan, Howard and wife Betty; grandkids, Jason, Kimi, Justin, Kyle, Michael, Alisia, Kayli, Collin, Phillip and wife Deaneen, Jennifer, & Bryan; great grandkids, Greg, Johnny, Danita, Elizabeth, Dominic, Olliver, Sully, Haven, Makayla, Amelia, & Isabell; many other family and friends.

The family will gather for a private memorial graveside at a later date under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Walters.
