Bill Johnson

Funeral Services at First Baptist Church, Walters, Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., Dr. Jack Jacob officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters with interment in the Walters Cemetery. 

William Morris “Bill” Johnson, Jr. was born to William Morris and Alva Lois (McDonell) Johnson on August 8, 1947 in Walters, OK and departed this life in Walters on December 17, 2023 at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 9 days.

Bill grew up in Walters, graduating from WHS in 1965. He married Carolyn Denise Doake on December 18, 1965 in Walters. In 1966 Bill joined the U.S. Air Force, doing basic training in San Antonio, TX and tech training in Colorado. The young family then lived in Wichita, KS, the Philippines and in Clovis, NM where he received an Honorable Discharge. 

The family returned to Walters in 1970 and Bill began a long career doing contract painting and finishing. In 1985 he began painting houses on Fort Sill, finishing his career with Civil Service in Housing Management. 

Bill loved all things family. He enjoyed trips to Branson, going to ball games and doing yard work. He was an avid OU fan. Bill was a member of First Baptist Church in Walters where he served as a deacon, and was active with outreach, and the shut-ins ministry. He always preferred to serve behind the scenes. Throughout his battle with cancer, Bill still tried to serve God and submit to Him each day.  
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris Johnson and Lois Hewitt; his infant daughter, Ouida Kay Johnson; and 2 sisters, LaDonna Williams and Irene Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn of the home; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Rex Hiebert of Walters, Jennifer and James Farris of Walters, Kelly and Kody McDowell of Walters, Sara and Justin Smart of Geronimo; 7 grandchildren and spouses, Rex Hiebert Jr. and Bridget, Jimmy Farris and Kaleigh, Makayla Patton and Tyler, Josh Farris, Kason Johnson, Kooper McDowell and Karlee McDowell; 6 great grandchildren, Ella, Deklan, Kynadi, Audrey, Kreed, Caden, and one on the way; other relatives and a host of friends.
