Billie Hess Gilpen was born to Hessie and Alberta (Riddle) Gilpen on February 1, 1945 at home near Lequire, OK and departed this life in Oklahoma City, OK on November 8, 2018 at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 7 days.
Bill grew up at Lequire through the 7th grade when the family moved to Hollister, OK, graduating from HHS in 1963. He then served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On June 1, 1968 he married Carol Stewart at Trinity Baptist Church in Frederick. To the union 2 children, Sherry and Billy, were born.
The family made their home in Hollister and Bill was employed at Coke & Quam Feed Lot and later at Aviall before beginning a career with Goodyear. He worked as a sorter, trucker and machine cleaner during his 27 years at the plant. Upon retirement they moved to the Hastings area in 2009 where he was a member of Hastings Baptist Church.
Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, mowing and driving the bus for the Waurika Headstart Program. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed attending their livestock shows and other activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Jack Gilpen and John Gilpen; 2 sisters, Rosanna Herndon and Sue Fisher; and his daughter, Sherry Gilpen Caporale in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Billy “Bub” Gilpen and Amy of Faxon, OK; a brother, Tom Gilpen of Oklahoma City; 2 sisters, Fern McClary and husband JR of Mustang, OK, Katherine Pettyjohn and husband John of Shawnee, OK; 5 grandchildren, Chelsie Nelson of Colorado Springs, Austin Dale Caporale of Hastings, Colton Hess Gilpen, Courtney Lynn Gilpen and Colby Cade Gilpen all of Faxon; 3 great grandchildren, Ethan, Presley and Gracie Nelson all of Colorado Springs; other relatives and a host of friends.
