Billy Yackeyonny

Funeral Service at Brown Indian Church, Walters, Friday, December 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Kent Simpson officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery. A Prayer Service will be held at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m.

Billy Joe Yackeyonny was born to Ernest and Elizabeth (Ototivo) Yackeyonny on May 5, 1936 in Lawton, OK and departed this life in Temple, OK on December 26, 2023 at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 21 days.

Billy grew up at Walters, graduating from WHS in 1954. He was employed at Southwest Salvage for 52 years. Bill married Erma Joan Shores on June 27, 1984 making Walters their home. She preceded him in death in 1995. He later married Lois Fern Payette on March 14, 2003 in Lawton, making their home in Walters. 

Billy was a Christian and had served as a deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church in Lawton. He and Fern have enjoyed attending Brown Indian Church south of Walters for several years. He was a proud and active member of the Comanche Nation. Billy enjoyed playing fast pitch softball avidly for many years and was known for his pitching. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Yackeyonny; his parents, Ernest and Elizabeth Yackeyonny; his grandmother, Angeline Ototivo; and 2 grandfathers, Vilas Ototivo and Owen Yackeyonny; and his brother, Gary Wayne Weryavah.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Fern Yackeyonny; several beloved stepchildren and grandchildren; many cousins, other relatives and friends.
