Brant Peter Scherler

September 21, 1952 — November 14, 2025

Brant Peter Scherler, whose path carried him from dusty plains to mountain peaks and back again, died peacefully in his sleep on November 14, 2025. He was 73 years old.

Born September 21, 1952, in Lawton, OK, to Wesley Arnold and Barbara June (Gilliland) Scherler, Brant grew up on the farm 8 miles west of Walters. He started school at Ahpeatone. In 6th grade he transferred to Walters Schools. At an early age, he joined his cousins in driving tractors to plow the family farms. As a teenager, he worked with his extended family in harvesting from Oklahoma to Nebraska.

Brant’s family was a member of Ahpeatone Baptist Church, where he accepted Jesus as his Savior. They later attended First Baptist Church of Walters. In his later adult years, Brant enjoyed being a part of the congregation of First Presbyterian Church of Walters, where he was an Elder.

Brant graduated from Walters High School as President of the Class of 1970. He then attended Oklahoma State University, graduating with a degree in History. He taught school in Oklahoma City for a few years before moving to Colorado. There, among the Rockies, he enjoyed skiing, hiking, and being outdoors. He then moved to Montana where he began driving a truck delivering farm equipment across open country. After a few years, he returned to Oklahoma City and continued driving a truck for a laundry service, driving daily between OKC and Wichita, KS. In his final chapter, he settled in Grapevine, TX, surrounded by family, books, and MeTV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wes and Barbara.

Brant is survived by his sister, Terry Toce (Mike) of Grapevine, TX; his nephew, Brian Toce (Lyndsey), and niece, Bethany Powers (Justin), both residing in Colleyville, TX; as well as great-nieces and nephews Jacob and Abbie Toce, and Elle, Wyatt, and Reid Powers.

Graveside services will be held Monday, December 8, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Walters Cemetery with Rev. Sue Long officiating.
