Charley Roach

Funeral Services at Letitia Baptist Church, east of Lawton, Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Matt Kelly officiating with burial at Letitia. Visitation at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Walters, Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

 

Charley Anderson Roach was born to George Washington and Nancy Elizabeth (Miller) Roach on November 11, 1931 southeast of Lawton, OK and departed this life in Lawton on May 26, 2019 at the age of 87 years, 6 months and 15 days.

Charley attended school at Pleasant Valley east and south of Lawton, Owens Prairie east of Marlow, Empire School and Central High Marlow where he graduated in 1950. He married Joyce Lorene Boatman on November 11, 1951 at Marlow, OK. They lived in Comanche where he delivered bread until being drafted into the U.S. Army, serving his country honorably during the Korean War. Upon his return home the family moved to Duncan and he was employed by Sunray for 32 years from 1955 to 1987. The couple moved to their current farm east of Lawton in 1998.

Charley enjoyed fishing, especially jug fishing, played golf and hunted. He also ran a saw shop for a number of years, sharpening and repairing saws and doing small engine repair. He was a member of Letitia Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 sisters, Bessie (Aston) Cothren, Lois Ray, Elsie Pollard, Alice Fletcher and Kathleen Roach; and 2 brothers, Edward “Ed” Roach and Riley Roach (Lost at Sea 1945.)

Survivors include his wife, Lorene Roach, of the home; a daughter, Robin Scruggs and Richard of Lawton; a son, Chuck Roach and Melia Thomas of Duncan; a sister, Lenora Dowlen of Lawton; 3 brothers, Lonzo Roach of Lawton, Jack Roach and Beverly of Billerica, MA, John Roach and Cora of Fletcher, OK; 6 grandchildren, Nichole Lorenzen and Dustin of Lawton, Lamar Scruggs and Natasha of Lawton, Melissa Brooke Branch and Josh of Duncan, Mason Roach of San Antonio, Chaz Roach of Amarillo and Carson Roach of Amarillo; 6 great grandchildren, Shelby Lorenzen, Sophie Lorenzen, Baylee Scruggs, Riley Branch, Reece Branch and Evangeline Roach; many other relatives and friends.
