Dewey Richardson

Funeral Services at the Church of Christ, Waurika, OK, Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., Tommy Maxwell, Noel Curington and Doyle Reynolds officiating with burial at the Sugden Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Visitation on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 in the church fellowship hall.

Dewey Eugene Richardson was born to William Dalton and Nellie Irene (Taylor) Richardson on April 27, 1940 at Waurika, OK and departed this life in Oklahoma City, OK on July 3, 2021 at the age of 81 years, 2 month and 6 days.

Dewey grew up on a farm near Waurika. He married Letha Ann Lemme on January 31, 1959 at Sugden, OK. They first made their home in Waurika where he worked as a mechanic and then as a Culverts Milk man. They moved to Frederick and worked for Fairmont Milk, delivering to homes, restaurants and grocery stores before getting into insurance. They moved to Duncan working in the insurance business and then into sales at Montgomery Wards before moving to Oklahoma City working for Morris Investments at Morris Chevrolet and before hiring on at Northwest Datsun. They eventually moved back to Waurika and he worked for Carl Campbell Chevrolet in Duncan until opening a used lot in Waurika and then managed Duncan Ford for a time. In 1990, Dewey opened a new dealership up in Waurika and eventually built the new Richardson Auto Center on Highway 81. In 2006 he sold out and began ranching.

Through the years Dewey enjoyed bowling, golf, working on and riding motorcycles, and enjoyed aggravating and joking around. He loved attending his kids, grandkids and great grandkid’s activities and sports. Dewey was benevolence minded. He was a people person and enjoyed visiting with folks at the truck stop and the drug store. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Billie Woods and her husband John; a brother, Jim Richardson and wife Helen; and 2 infant sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Ann, of the home; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Sonny and Tammy Richardson of Ryan, OK, Chuck and Rena Richardson of Ardmore, OK; a brother, Harold Richardson and Lynette of Oak Harbor, WA; 2 sisters, Shirley Cephus of Waurika, OK, Jeanne “Susie” Gower and Cletus of Temple, OK; 4 grandchildren, Nick Richardson and Crystal of Midlothian, TX, Dylan Richardson and Kaelee of Waurika, Derek Richardson of Oklahoma City, Tierani Smith and Chad of Mustang; 7 great grandchildren, Alyssa, Kyson, Cade, Ava, Preston, Presley and Paityn; other relatives and a host of friends.
