Dorotea Sanchez

Dorotea De-Jesus Torres Sanchez was born February 6, 1928 in Cayey, Puerto Rico and departed this life in Lawton, OK on February 7, 2023 at the age of 95 years.

Dorotea grew up at Cayey, Puerto Rico. She married Francisco Sanchez there on October 9, 1945 and to the union 4 children were born. With her husband in the military, they moved to Germany in 1960. They were stationed for a time in Oklahoma and then back to Germany until 1970 when they returned to Puerto Rico. Francisco preceded her in death on June 28, 1995 after 49 devoted years of marriage. She eventually moved to Cache, OK in 2017 to be near a daughter.

Dorotea worked as a seamstress most of her working years and loved her time as a housewife. She was a member of The Church Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion in Cayey since a child. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and flowers. She loved people and especially her grandbabies. She enjoyed her dogs, listening to music and loved her island.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francisco; her son, Angel Sanchez; 6 brothers and sisters; a grandson; and 2 great grandchildren.

Dorotea is survived by 3 daughters, Gloria Weinberg of White Pigeon, MI, Olga Gannaway of Cache, OK and Sonia Mantooth and Tim of Jeffersonville, IN; a bonus daughter, Ely Colon of Lawton; her brother, Jose Manuel “Nollin” De-Jesus Torres of Ohio; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer Weinberg, Lauri Weinberg Hummel, Tanya Scott, Tony Sanchez, Angela Fremin, Cris Sanchez, Carlos Vissepo, Francisco Vissepo, Emmanuel Vissepo, Jonathan Vissepo, LaChonda Williams, Carlos Raul Higgs and Larry Williams; 50 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren with 2 more on the way.
