Dovie Pauline (Tollett) Southward was born to Cairl Hines and Gladys Mae (Richardson) Tollett on December 29, 1928 at Childress, TX and departed this life in Mannford, OK on January 21, 2019 at the age of 90 years and 23 days.
Dovie grew up and lived in several different states, eventually coming to Walters in 1949. She married Thomas Dilford “Ted” Southward on October 28, 1966. She was a homemaker and also kept books for the welding shop. In the early 1970’s she and Jim Witt started the Walters Senior Citizens Center and she served as the director from 1977 to around 1985.
She and Ted enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing, and enjoyed sewing with Betty Norman. In her later years she has enjoyed watching and participating in her great grandkids sport and school events. She hated to miss any event as she watched wrestling, football, softball, soccer, track and basketball. She also liked going to “Walmarts” to just wander around and pass the time.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; 2 daughters, Linda Kay Monson and Sherry Bennett; a son, Joe Matejek, Jr.; and a brother, Cairl Tollett.
Survivors include a son, Cairl Wayne Matejek of Sand Springs, OK; a daughter, Linda Wann of Waco, TX; a brother, Dorman Wayne Tollett of Temple, OK; 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
