Elmer Downey

Elmer William Downey was born to Honor (Mayfield) and Benjamin Franklin Thomas Downey on January 15, 1931 at Comanche, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on March 19, 2019 at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 4 days.

Elmer grew up in the Comanche and Duncan area, attending Willow Point School. He married Nellie Kathryn Durbin on March 14, 1951 at Lawton, OK and to the union 3 children were born. They lived at Corum before purchasing a property south of Duncan. They eventually moved to Odessa, TX for 19 years before returning to Comanche in 1975. Through the years he worked as a roughneck and was a lifetime farmer.

He attended Assumption Catholic Church in Duncan. Elmer enjoyed fishing and hunting racoon, squirrel, dove and turkey. He also enjoyed playing canasta family and dominos with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nellie in 1983; a brother, Benny Downey; and 2 sisters, Martha Blalock and Betty Downey.

Survivors include 3 children, Kathryn Downey of Chickasha, Teresa Gee and husband Glenn of San Angelo, TX, and Dub Downey and wife Barbara of Comanche; a brother, Hugh Downey of Durant, OK; 6 grandchildren Anthony Paul Downey and wife Andrea of Duncan, Rachael Young and husband Jeremy of Comanche, Jory Shawn Downey and wife Marjorie of Duncan, Bryan Nicholas David Downey of Chickasha, Farah Sears and husband Charles of San Angelo, Phyllis Harrell of San Angelo; and 9 grandchildren Clay Downey and wife Megan, Morgan Downey, Augustus Downey, Liam Sears, Maddox Thompson, Addyson Downey, Ambree Downey, Axlynn Downey and Harli Young.
