Graveside services for Ernestine will be held Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at 10:30 am in the Temple Cemetery in Temple, Oklahoma. Arrangements with the Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Walters, Oklahoma.

 

Ernestine Lillian (Shaw) Dilks was born to Ernest Shaw and Cleveland Lucille (Suttle) Shaw, September 8, 1925, at home in Temple, Oklahoma, the third of four children. Ernestine passed away at her home in Guthrie, Oklahoma, on July 16, 2021. Ernestine grew up in Temple and graduated from Temple high in 1943. She married her childhood sweetheart, Darrell W. Dilks, Sr., on September 11, 1943, shortly before Darrell reported for active duty in the U.S. Army on October 12, 1943. They were united in marriage for 75 years until his death December 18, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Darrell, her parents and her siblings – Lester Shaw, Mildred Hardin and Janie Shepard. She is survived by her three children – Brenda (Paul) Dodson, Darrell (Eva) Dilks and Randy (Tonya) Dilks. Her six grandchildren – Stuart, Cara, Sara, Zachary, Elise and Russell; and seven great grandchildren – Roark, Calvin, Chianti, Zephyr, Vallen, Vivien and Evelyn. Also survived by Charles (Glenna) Dilks, Doris Kay (Doyal) Humphries, Ann (Bob) Cable, Judy (Walter) Butler and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernestine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Guthrie, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Logan County Hospital and the Guthrie Garden Club. She will long be remembered as a great cook who shared her joy of cooking with countless family, friends and neighbors. She will be missed by her family and friends.
