Funeral Service at First United Methodist Church, Temple, OK, Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Christy Clark officiating with burial in the Temple Cemetery. Visitation on Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Temple. Memorial Donations can be made to Breast Cancer research.

Eula Nadine Gibson was born to Charles Madison and Stella (Elmore) McClung on August 10, 1932 in Bonham, TX and departed this life in Temple, OK on December 3, 2022 at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 23 days.

Nadine grew up in Temple, OK, graduating from THS in 1951. She married Leon Ernest Aulenbach in 1951 and to the union a daughter was born. While stationed in Pennsylvania, Leon’s life was taken in an auto accident in 1955 and Nadine and toddler Denise returned to Temple. She later married Charles Alfred “Hoot” Gibson on August 5, 1956 in Burkburnett and to this union a son, Charlie Alfred, II was born.

Hoot was serving in the Navy and the young family was soon stationed in Coronado, CA. They returned to Temple but were called to the Philippines, then moved to Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, Millington, TN after Hoot was wounded in Vietnam, Long Beach, MS, Las Vegas, back to Long Beach. Upon his retirement they finally settled in Temple where Nadine was a farm wife for a time. She had worked in retail stores with their many moves, and now back in Temple she found her place with Haley Drug in 1974, serving her community well until the store’s close.

While on one of their stays in Long Beach, MS, the family’s neighborhood was hit hard by Hurricane Camille in August of 1969, affected by both wind damage and flooding. Due to Hoot’s military responsibilities to lead the cleanup in Pass Christian, Nadine was left to take care of rebuilding their home and family. She rose to that challenge with the same constitution that she later used to help lead the way in moving the Pleasant Ridge School House to Temple in the 1990’s. This not only saved the old schoolhouse but has provided a venue to host all sorts of events for the community.

Nadine was a member of the Temple United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, cross stitch, counted cross stitch, candle wicking, embroidery, as well as refinishing antique oak furniture. She was an avid cyclist riding in many cycling events around Oklahoma and Texas. She loved collecting town history and was always proactive in her endeavors. She was beloved in her community and was once recognized by the Temple Chamber of Commerce as their “Citizen of the Year.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Stella McClung; and five siblings, Stella Marie Roberts, Billie Jean Powell, Jay Lee McClung, Minnie Jewell Ammons and Charles M. McClung, Jr.

Nadine is survived by her children, Denise McComber and husband, Leon of Walters, OK, and Charlie A. “Chuck” Gibson and wife Jana of Elgin, OK; 8 grandchildren and spouses, Chaz Gibson of Tulsa, Cara Smith of Sherman, TX, Courtney Solstad and Steve of McKinney, TX, Lauren McComber of Largo, FL, Leah Matthews of Clinton, OK, James Gibson of Fletcher, Stacy McDonald of Largo, Greg McComber and Brandi of Walters; 15 great grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
