Graveside Services at Duncan Municipal Cemetery, Duncan, OK, Monday, October 19, 2026 at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Charles McConnell officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home, Walters. Viewing Saturday from 10am to 8 pm and on Sunday from 2-8pm.
Evelyn Elizabeth (Hopson) Bridgers was born to Dossey Levi and Ethel Evelyn (Williams) Bridgers on May 16, 1943 in Scrappin Valley, TX and departed this life at her home in rural Walters, OK on October 15, 2026 at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 29 days.
Evelyn grew up in Scrappin Valley, TX, graduating from Brookeland High School in 1961. She spent the summer after graduation in Meridian Community visiting her sister and there met Lindley Bridgers. They married on June 20, 1962 at the Jefferson County Courthouse and 3 daughters were born to the union. They lived in Duncan, then moved to a farm west of town before living in the oilfield house for a time and then built their current home in 1969.
Through the years, she has been a homemaker, farmwife and an oilfield pumper. Her priority was always taking care of Lindley, her girls, her grandkids and great grandkids.
Evelyn was a member of Fair Baptist Church, Empire. She was known for her prize-winning pies, especially coconut cream. She loved the Fall season and hosting Thanksgiving, and her dressing was a favorite. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning, garage sales, and rearranging furniture. She also enjoyed keeping her flowerbeds, mowing and weed eating. She loved a finished yard. She kept lots of kids through the years that still call her Nana. She has hung lots of clothes on the line, did lots of farm work, and always had a solution and an honest opinion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and 5 brothers and sisters, Ellis Hopson, Myrtle Hyden, Ben Hopson, Jimmy Lee Hopson and Maxine Young.
Survivors include her husband, Lindley Bridgers, of the home; 3 daughters and their families, Karen Newman and Robert of Walters (son Cody Newman of Walters), Debbie Emerick of Dandridge, TN (daughter Emily Emerick of Dandridge, son Matthew Emerick and Angelica, twins Apollo and Artemis), and Leann Martin and James of Cookietown, OK; her sister, Lavon Teague of Splendora, TX; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
