Gary Don Mitchell was born to J.P. and Alva Joy (Downs) Mitchell on January 8, 1959 in Walters, OK and departed this life on September 23, 2025 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 66 years, 8 months, and 15 days.

Don grew up in Walters, attending school there. He enjoyed carpentry class in high school and then used that in his career, doing residential construction. Later, his focus became caring for his parents, including being his mother’s main care giver for the last 13 years of her life after his father’s passing.

In his spare time he enjoyed going to the Casino and to Powwows, participating in the gourd dancing and singing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.P. and Alva Joy Mitchell.

He is survived by his daughters, Cassie Patterson and Katie Mitchell both of Lawton; a brother, Jay Mitchell and Cheryl of Norman, OK; a sister Karen McCoy and James of Lawton; a nephew, Austin McCoy; a niece, Jana Fink; a companion of 23 years, Wilnetta “Sukie” Monoessy; many other family members and friends.
