Helen Jo Wyatt

Graveside Services at the Walters Cemetery, Walters, OK on Tuesday, January 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.

 

Helen Jo (Stamper) Wyatt was born to William Curry and Eva Madeline (Wash) Stamper on December 27, 1926 at Walters, OK and departed this life in Duncan, OK on January 5, 2019 at the age of 92 years and 9 days.

Helen grew up at Walters and graduated with the WHS Class of 1944 before attending 2 years at OBU. She married Justice Tillman “J.T.” Wyatt on May 27, 1946 at Walters. Upon J.T.’s graduation from mortuary school the couple made their home in Temple and soon began a family. They moved to Walters in late 50’s and Helen was employed at Cotton Electric for a time. In 1969 they bought out their partner in Pearson Funeral Home, renaming it Wyatt Funeral Home. Helen kept books for the business until she and J.T. retired in 1984.

The couple enjoyed their home at Waurika Lake during the 1980’s and 90’s and then had a short stay back in Walters before settling into the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas where they joined the First Baptist Church of McAllen. Helen was always active in her local churches, teaching Sunday School for children and youth. In November of 2015 she moved back to Oklahoma making her home at Canoe Brook Assisted Living in Duncan, and began attending Missionary Baptist Church.

Through the years Helen enjoyed water skiing, homemaking, cooking, entertaining, traveling, bridge club and was a shopping diva.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.T., in 2012; 2 children, Jay Wyatt and Linda Wyatt Mottley; her brothers, Jack and James Stamper; and her sisters, Janie Isom and Ann Pruner.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and George Fielding of Pharr, TX; a brother-in-law, Harold Pruner of Houston, TX; 3 grandsons, Matt Crawford of Prescott Valley, AZ, Joe Tillman Wyatt and John Thomas Wyatt both of DeKalb, IL; other relatives and friends.
