Howard Vardell

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel, Walters.

Howard Vardell was born to Alvis and Jessie (Daniel) Vardell on December 17, 1941, in Walters, OK and departed this life in Walters on September 11, 2026, at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 25 days.

Howard grew up in rural Walters, OK, attending Walters public schools. The family was engaged in farming and also went north on harvest together for many years. He married Bonnita June Cooper, raising 4 kids south of Walters. Howard worked as a mechanic at Sears in Lawton for 20 years. He then began a career with Pipping Engineering and then did supervising for J.V. Industries, retiring in 2008.

While on a job in California he met and later married Jo Loraine (Nisonger) Hull on September 18, 1998. They have made their home together in Walters. Howard enjoyed fishing, dancing with Jo, and picking on people. He could work on and fix anything with a motor. He loved spoiling the grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, AV and Jessie Vardell; 2 sons, Howard Dean Vardell and Raymond Dale Vardell; a brother, Johnny “John Earl” Vardell; and 4 sisters, Dorothy Lucille “Lou” Collins; Jane Ogletree LeBarre, Kay LeBarre and an infant sister, Louise Vardell.

He is survived by his wife, Jo “Dodie” Hull; a daughter, Andy Vardell Jester of Walters; a son, Gerald Wayne Vardell and Shirley of Wichita Falls; 2 brothers, Jackie Vardell of Walters, Jimmy Vardell of Texas; a sister, Sherry Ann Acrey of Walters; 16 grandkids, 19 great grandkids and 10 great-great grandkids; other relatives and friends.
