Jan Jennette (Packwood) Johnson was born December 30, 1941, in Henryetta, OK, to James Jackson “Jack” or "J.J." and Blanche Adeline (Snow) Packwood. She passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026, in Duncan, Oklahoma, at the age of 84 years, 4 months, and 10 days.
Jan left Henryetta as a young girl and lived in Okemah. While attending Okemah High School, she met the love of her life, Bobby Max Johnson, at a basketball game. The two married on November 8, 1958, and 3 children were born to the union.
After marrying, the couple moved to Bristow and then traveled with Bob’s job with the Department of Agriculture. They mostly raised their children in Okemah and then Walters, where they have made their home since. Jan opened a ceramics shop in Walters called The Pour House and then began her career in bookkeeping at the grocery stores in Walters and Temple and later at Walters Bank & Trust.
Jan enjoyed ceramics, painting, baking, and canning. She was fun, always ready for a laugh or prank, and liked to pick on those she loved. She was Mama Jan to many kids around town while her own children were growing up. Her favorite roles became Grandma Jan and Mammy Jan, doing whatever the grandkids wanted.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack “J.J.” and Blanche Packwood; and brothers, Johnny, Jerry, and Jackie Delton Packwood.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Johnson, of the home; 2 daughters, Diana and Jack Armitage of Calera and Sandy and Jeff Simpson of Walters; 1 son, Bobby Darrell Johnson; 3 grandchildren, Jeffrey and Chelsey, Tony and Jessica Simpson, and Sara Wingfield and Steven; 5 great-grandchildren, Lane, Paisley, Gatlin, Sadie, and Julianne; and other relatives and friends.
