Jimmy Moates

Jimmy Curtis Moates was born to John Curtis and Frances Faye (Sparks) Moates on March 25, 1954 in Abilene TX and departed this life on February 13, 2024 in Wichita Falls, TX at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 19 days.

Jimmy grew up in Temple, graduating from THS. After high school spent time in Guymon, Oklahoma City and Lawton. He worked as a truck driver hauling steel and grain, doing local and cross-country hauling. This landed him in California for a time where he met and married Sharon Kay (White) Thomas and they married on October 30, 1989 in Bakerfield, CA. They returned to Temple and he then worked years as a dredge operator at the sand plant south of Temple, then one at Bowie, then to Tulsa, working at the Anchor Stone sand plant before moving to Pittsburg, PA. He retired in 2019 and returned to Temple.  

Jimmy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time at the river. He loved his dogs and cat. He also enjoyed his time working on the dredge and even had a pet catfish at the plant. 

He was preceded in death by his father, John Curtis “Poopie” Moates; his mother, Frances Faye Rylant; and his son, Sammy Moates in 2017.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Moates of the home; his son, JR Moates of Oklahoma City; his daughter, Tracy Moates of Lawton; 2 stepsons, Adam Kelly of Tulsa and Jesse McKeever of Germany; his sister, Sandie Thomas of Temple; 9 grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
