Judy Kay (Phelps) Barbee was born to Hoy and Lois Dean (Whatley) Phelps on November 14, 1948 in Bokchito, OK and departed this life at home in rural Walters, OK on August 12, 2025 at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 29 days.
Judy grew up in Bokchito, where as a child she made Jesus lord of her life. The local children made a point to visit all the VBS programs and that is where she met her Lord and Savior. Judy graduated from BHS in 1967, where she was Homecoming Queen, FFA Sweetheart, Drum Major, Salutatorian and was a 4-year letterman in basketball. She was working at the Highway Café when she met Clyde Edward “Eddie” Barbee. They married on August 21, 1973 and made their home in Lawton. Along with raising her kids, Judy was involved in the restaurant business most of her adult life. She ended her career as owner and operator of the Delta Queen Café in Lawton. She and Eddie moved to Walters in 2008.
Judy loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, bowling, reading and loved playing bingo and the casino.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hoy and Lois Phelps; her infant son, Kevin Andrew Barbee; 2 brothers, Harold and Bob Knight; 2 sisters, Margie Andrews and Joyce Thompson; and a grandson, Bentley Bruer.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Eddy Barbee of the home; her daughter, Paula Griffith and husband Darrell Bruer of Walters; her son, Keith Edward Barbee and wife Martha of Walters; a sister, Gerry Sue Meadors of Bryan, TX; a sister-in-law, Mona Knight of Sherman, TX; a brother-in-law, Orval Thompson of Bennington, OK; 9 grandchildren and spouses, Robin Burns and Dan, Raven Piontek and Matt, Jana Williams and Nakoa, Jill Euwins, Jarred Faske and Tempest, Rhea Patman and Blake Hine, Dakota Barbee, Banner Barbee, and Ren Griffith and Makayla; 15 great grandchildren, Woodrow, Rowdy, Scarlet, Lorelai, Camden, Raeleigh, Racie, Camryn, Cooper, Bristyl, Madeline, Gabriel, Cole, Cora and Dante; other treasured nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
