Katie Lou Swanson

Graveside Services at the Walters Cemetery, Walters, OK on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters. Viewing on Thursday prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Katie Lou (Blackwell) Swanson was born to James Allison and Altha Letha (Webb) Blackwell on January 20, 1942 in Faxon, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on December 28, 2019 at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 8 days.

Katie grew up in Walters graduating from Walters High School in 1960. She married Cleo Dowd Swanson on March 18, 1961 at Bible Baptist Church in Walters. To the union 2 daughters were born. The family moved with Dowd’s jobs making their home in numerous towns between Lawton, OK and South Texas. While at Lake Jackson, TX she attended Brazoport College for 2 years and then worked for American Savings and Loan for a time. The couple eventually made their way back to Oklahoma, settling at Geronimo.

Katie enjoyed cooking and sewing, as well as, camping, boating and fishing. She loved and cared for animals of all kinds. She was a member of Abundant Life Church in Geronimo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband who passed on May 7, 2018.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Crystal Ann Gourley, and Angela Turner and husband Bryan all of Geronimo; her sister Colleen Champion and husband Gary of Comanche, OK; 3 grandchildren, Fawn Krodel of Reno, NV, Tory Turner of DeRitter, LA and Lacy Molder of Lawton; 9 great grandchildren, Saraya, Harley, Dakota, Kadyn, Braylynn, Tristan, Audri, Jathan and Kensley; and 1 great-great grandchild, Sophia Grace.
