Larry Lloyd Johnson was born to Earnest Lorenzo and Wanda Alene (Smyers) Johnson on December 8, 1936 in rural Temple, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on June 9, 2021 at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 1 day.

Larry grew up on the Red River south of Temple. He and his brother first attended Liberty Hill School until his mother began teaching at Temple. He graduated from THS in 1955. In the late 50’s he was drafted into the U.S. Army for 2 years, serving in Korea, and then completed his service in the Army Reserve for 4 years.

Larry farmed and ranched all his life south of Temple. He married Wanda Louise (Moon) on November 26, 1970 at the Walters Church of Christ. To the union 2 sons were born.

Larry was a member of the Church of Christ and loved attending church, even during his time of ill health. He had served on the board of Camp Lu Jo for 13 years and was a longtime board member of the Temple Co-op Gin. Larry enjoyed going to the lake for water skiing and was always eager to teach a niece, nephew or friend how to. He also enjoyed dominos, cooking out and spending time with his entire family. Larry’s real joy came with farming, stripping cotton, cutting wheat and raising his cattle.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Johnson, of the home; 2 sons, Gregory Johnson of the home and Phillip Johnson and wife Shannon of Norman, OK; his granddaughter, Jalen Johnson of Norman; his brother, Bill Johnson and wife Sherry of Houston, TX; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, L.D. Moon, Glen Mallow, Janice Moon, Jean Moon, Carol and Larry Thompson, Robert and Suzanne Moon; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
