July 4, 1940 — November 10, 2025

Linda Louise Norman-Garrison, 85, of Walters, Oklahoma, passed away on November 10th, 2025 after a lengthy illness.

Linda was born on the 4th of July, 1940 to Jessie Rowena Carr-Norman and George Athel Norman in Walters, Oklahoma. After graduating from Walters High School in 1958, she went on to study at Midwestern State University.

After college, she met Stanley Joe Garrison, also from Walters. They married in June 1959. To this union, their son Joseph Craig Garrison was born.

Linda had a career crossing industries that included positions in finance at CIT for more than 20 years, time as a real estate agent and then a broker.

Linda also had a passion for history. After retiring, she studied the history of Walters and Cotton County. To share what she's learned about county history, she wrote a beloved column called Looking Back in the Walters Herald for over 20 years.

To Linda, history was not just about recorded events, but a way to connect with your heritage and ancestors. Her passion and expertise in genealogy was widely known and appreciated. Linda was a founding member of the Southwest Oklahoma Genealogical Society (SWOGS) in Lawton, Oklahoma and served as its President for several years.

One project that Linda was particularly proud of, was chronicling the missions of a WWII air bomber group. She spent years sorting through records, photos and stories to honor these veterans and their valiant efforts.

Linda was a founding member of the Cotton County Museum. She spent countless hours curating items and chronicling stories from the history of the county for the museum. This work ensured that generations to come would have this priceless collection to look back on.

Another passion of Linda’s was music. She was an accomplished organist and singer. Linda was an active member of the McDowell Club. She was happy to share her musical talents wherever needed. She played the organ for her church, weddings, funerals and other events for many years.

Linda was a woman of faith, service and compassion. She will be remembered for many things. But above all, she was a loving mother, sister and friend.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, aunts, uncles and some cousins.
