Funeral Service at First Baptist Church, Walters, Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Brad Spurlock officiating with remarks by David Hale. Interment in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.
Marilynn Yvonne (Fred) Fletcher was born to Maurice Harmon Fred and Virginia Nell (Dunn) Fred on July 17, 1953, in Lubbock, TX and departed this life in Oklahoma City, OK on June 26, 2026, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 9 days.
Marilynn grew up in Guymon, OK, graduating from Guymon High School in 1971. She attended Texas Tech in Lubbock for a time and worked as a key punch operator for a while. While living there, she met Stephen Lee Fletcher in a cornfield while he was on harvest. They married on April 13, 1974, in Lazbuddie, TX. The couple made their home east of Walters, OK, living in the same house with a few remodels and add-ons since that time. To the union 3 girls were born.
Together, she and Steve farmed, ranched and did custom harvesting through the years. They also purchased the John Deere dealership in Walters in 1983, operating Fletcher Equipment until 1997. She ran the store and kept books immaculately for their farming and ranching operation, all the while taking great pride in being a homemaker.
Marilynn was a member of First Baptist Church and loved helping with Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed music, could play the piano and made sure the girls took piano lessons. She enjoyed taking trips to Branson, MO and spending time with her grandkids at Disney World. She also enjoyed gardening, league bowling, taking her girls shopping and was an incredible cook. She hauled many meals to the guys in the field. She faithfully supported her girls in their activities through school, sports and livestock shows. She did the same for her beloved grandkids who lovingly called her Gams.
Marilynn was preceded in death by her father Maurice Fred; her mother and stepfather, Virginia Morris and Alton; and her brother, Mike Fred.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Fletcher of the home; 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie Simpson and Chad of Bellefonte, PA, Stacie Allen and Randy of Dallas, TX, Holly Pulis and Andrew of Sulphur, OK; 10 grandchildren, Logan Simpson and fiancé Kylei Nunley (son Ryan), Lyssa Simpson and fiancé Demetri Butts, Landon Simpson, Lynzie Simpson, Lathan Simpson, Lexie Simpson, Jacob Allen, Sky’Lynn Burton and husband Ethan, Shaylie Fletcher and Asher Pulis; her step siblings, Carolyn Morris Matthews and Gary of Grand Prairie, TX, Gail Morris and Marca of Horseshoe Bay, and Jeannie Morris Hill and David of Granbury, TX; her sisters-in-law, Karen Fletcher and Paula Fletcher; other relatives and friends.
