Marquita G. Taylor

November 10, 1949 — December 19, 2018

Marquita Gail (Whittington) Taylor was born to Charles H. and Betty (Wade) Whittington on November 10, 1949 at Newton, KS and departed this life in Oklahoma City, OK on December 19, 2018 at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 9 days.

Marquita came to Walters from Kansas at the age of five, around 1955, and began working at the local dairy queen at age 16. She graduated from Walters High School in 1968 and went on to beauty school. Upon receiving her beauty license, she went to work For Shirley Cooper. She married Richard Jess Taylor on March 20, 1970 at Walters.

Marquita owned her own beauty shop for a time but sold it to stayed home with the kids for a while. She later worked at Four Seasons Flowers and Things, designing floral arrangements and soon purchased the business a few months later in 1985. The ladies apparel sales eventually faded and the couple began making custom tee-shirts along with arranging flowers. Around 1993 they sold the flower shop and purchased the sewing machines necessary to make sports uniforms and offered other sports stuff as well, calling the business Four-Seasons Sports Stuff. Their clients were from the college level down to little league including the making of OU practice uniforms for several years, Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii’s sports uniforms, and did caps and drapes for all of Candid Color’s locations throughout the country.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Walters. The WHS Class of 1968 was very special to her and she loved any time they could get together. She enjoyed looking at flowers and observing her roses, eating out and visiting with people. She loved her kids and grandkids and enjoyed attending their school and community events through the years. Not working since August, Marquita has enjoyed watching every possible Hallmark movie on TV.

She was preceded in death by her mother and her stillborn daughter, Jessica Marie Taylor.

Survivors include her husband, Rick, of the home; 2 children, Marnie Derrickson and husband Justin of Altus, OK, and Jake “J.D.” Taylor of Walters; 3 grandchildren, Zoie, Brodie and Sophie Rogers of Altus; her father, Charles Whittington of Thackerville, OK; a brother, Dale Whittington and wife Mary Kay of Thackerville; 2 sisters, Sue Ann Jones and husband Danny of Thackerville, and LaDonna Knox and husband Bob of Malta, TX; a special sister-in-law, Pat Sparks Diamond and husband Howard of Norman, OK; other relatives and many friends.
