Funeral Services at Antioch Baptist Church, Lawton, Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Ray Burk officiating, assisted by Rev. Vivian Garza. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters.
Oleta Pearl (Burk) Dean was born to James Marion and Alta (Bradford) Burk on March 15, 1938 in Lawton, OK and departed this life in Lawton on April 9, 2026 at the age of 88 years and 25 days.
Oleta grew up in Lawton, attending Lincoln Elementary, Central Junior High and Lawton High School, graduating in 1956. She married Paul Bergmann on December 21, 1957 in Lawton and to the union 2 children, Paul David and Tammy Renee were born. Paul served a term with the Army and upon his discharge they moved to be near his family in East Jordan, MI. He soon rejoined the Army and Oleta returned to Lawton while he was in training. She then joined him in Baltimore, MD for one and a half years before he was called to Germany for 3 years. From there he went to Vietnam and she and the kids stayed in Lawton. They joined him in Savannah, GA for 3 years then he had a second tour to Vietnam. The family was then stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY for 5 years. They divorced and she and the kids returned to Lawton in 1977 where she has lived since that time.
Oleta worked in the mess halls at Fort Sill until going to work at Good Year in 1980. She retired in 1994 after 14 years with the company. On January 4, 1985 she married Paul Dean. During their 28 years of marriage the couple enjoyed attending church and making music together as they sang and he played the guitar. They also enjoyed dancing and going to Bluegrass festivals. She was raised in the Bible Baptist Church and enjoyed attending Antioch Baptist Church for much of the past 30 years. She loved her family and putting on reunions.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Dean in 2013; her son, Paul David Bergman; her daughter, Tammy Renee Callaway; her parents, James and Alta Burk; 9 brothers, Everett, Clarence, Howard, Welton, Carl, Neal, Jake, Gene and Tommy; and 5 sisters, Mae Kovacs, Earlene Burk, Wanda Brooking, Joyce Grayson and Barthene Ryans.
Survivors include 2 grandchildren, Aaron Bergmann of Alabama and Michael Callaway of Newalla, OK; a son-in-law, Junior Callaway and Shawna of Newalla; 3 step-daughters, Ann Anderson of Texas, Gwen McAlister of Owasso, OK and Nancy Goar of Texas; 6 step-grandkids, Jeremy, Justin, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Lydia and Becky; a special niece and nephew, Barbara and Larry Burk; her best friend, Sheryl Empson; many other nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
