Patti Ann (Smith) Scattergood

Patti Ann Scattergood was born on July 20, 1950, in Wichita Falls, TX, and was the daughter of Dale Allen and Thelma Irene (Woody) Smith. She departed this life in Lawton, OK on April 21, 2026, at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 1 day.

Patti grew up in Walters, graduating from WHS in the class of 1968. She found not only a passion but also a talent for music at a young age, starting to accompany for church and in the community by 7th grade. After high school she attended Southwest Oklahoma State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in voice and a minor in piano in 1971. She then worked on a post graduate degree at OU, OCU, and NTU-Denton.

Patti then began a 35-year career in teaching choral music, mostly in elementary schools. She taught in Denton, TX, Helena-Golty, OK, Grubber, TX, Farmington, NM, Portage, IN, Waxahachie, TX, and DeSoto, TX. While in Waxahachie she operated her own pet sitting business for 20 years. After retiring from her career in public education she returned to Walters in 2014.

Patti loved animals, especially dogs, and shopping. She had been a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Wichita Falls and currently at First United Methodist Church in Walters.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Thelma (Woody) Smith and a brother Allen Smith.

Survivors include a nephew, Dale, and Christi Smith of Kocomo, ID and a great-niece, Marleana Smith; a cousin, Robert, and Debbie Breedlove of Stillwater, other relatives and friends.
