Funeral Services at First Baptist Church, Walters, OK, Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Brad Spurlock officiating with burial in the Walters Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home. The family request that those who attend wear red or bright colors in honor of Pattie.
Pattie Jacquetta Calfy was born to Jack Edward and Bertha Belle (Hoodenpyle) Van Ness on February 7, 1947 in Duncan, OK and departed this life at her home in rural Walters, OK on May 24, 2026 at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 17 days.
Pattie grew up in Walters, graduating from WHS in 1965. She then attended Oklahoma State University earning her Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1969. She did her student teaching in Oklahoma City and then returned to Cotton County where she taught at Big Pasture and then at Temple before coming to Walters. She retired in 2000 after many years of teaching high school science and leading Student Council at WHS. After a short break, she began teaching photography and technology at Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton for several years. She laid off for a year then returned to WHS, teaching photography part-time in the mornings. She finally retired from teaching and concentrated on her online photography business.
Pattie married Edward Dewayne Calfy on January 11, 1974, in Wichita Falls, TX, making their home northeast of Walters. She and Ed enjoyed traveling to pretty places, taking pics and eating steaks. She loved drinking coffee at home with a view of the pond. She enjoyed making home-cooked meals, and was known for her chicken fried steak and griddle French toast. Pattie loved spending time with her grandkids and attending their activities. She had a passion for photography and learning new styles. She loved learning in general. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Walters where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was also an active member of the Cotton County Art Council.
Pattie was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Calfy in March of this year; her son, Justin Hancock; her father Jack Van Ness; her mother and stepdad, Belle and Leo Durbin; and her sister, Leona Peterman
Survivors include a son, Jason Hancock and Melessa of Walters; a daughter, Cayla Wrape and Kent of Walters; a stepson, Kevin Calfy of Duncan; 9 grandchildren, Kristian Wrape of Duncan, Kacie Bennett of Walters, Tarah Hancock and Segan of Bethany, OK, Jordan Clark and Michael of Mustang, Colton Wrape and Marisa of Walters, Canaan Hancock and Erin of Lyme, NH, Gus Wrape and Emily of Walters, Jase Hancock and Hunter Hancock, both of Walters; 11 great grandchild; 1 great-great grandchild; a sister-in-law, Louise Sparks of Walters other relatives and friends.
