Penny Buchanan

Penny Darlene Buchanan was born December 19, 1959 in Quanah, TX and departed this life in Walters, OK on January 4, 2023 at the age of 63 years and 16 days.

Penny grew up at Quanah, the daughter of George and Ovita (Hope) Mulvaney. She graduated from Quanah High School in 1978 and then attended Vernon Regional Junior College where she received her nursing degree.

Penny worked at the State Hospital in Vernon until moving to Lawton, OK where she worked as an RN at the Lawton/Ft. Sill VA Center. She eventually moved to Duncan, OK where she married Frederick L. Buchanan on December 8, 2012. They moved to Walters, OK in July of 2013 and Penny continued with the VA until hiring on with Comanche County Memorial Hospital in 2015. She retired in 2020 due to her own health issues. She enjoyed horseback riding, fishing and camping. She loved spending time with her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband, Fred, of the home; 4 children, Alex Thomas of Walters, Valerie Sanders and Brandon of Santo, TX, Tyler Buchanan and Stephanie of Duncan and Hannah Buchanan of Central High, OK; her brother, Larry Kirby of Texas; 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; other relatives and friends.
