Thomas Wayne Newsom, 80, Temple, Oklahoma

Funeral Services at the Church of Christ, Walters, OK on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., Don Crow officiating with burial in the Temple Cemetery under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home.

Thomas Wayne Newsom, 80 of Temple, Oklahoma passed away on March 5, 2021 at home. He was born December 17, 1940 in Walters, OK to Fratis and Othella (Cooper) Newsom. Thomas grew up near Temple and graduated from Temple High School. He often told stories, as a young child, of looking up at night and seeing the stars through the roof of the house where he grew up as a kid. As a teenager he loved drag racing and his 57 Chevy. He attended Cameron College in Lawton, OK where he received an Associate Degree. Thomas married Mary Nell Williamson of Hastings, Oklahoma on August 29, 1964.

Thomas worked as a roustabout in the oil field for Kewanee, Gulf, and Chevron for 28 years. He was also a farmer raising wheat and cattle. From time to time, Thomas also raised parakeets in addition to his work as a roustabout and farmer. Through all of these endeavors, he was supported by his loving wife. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard and US Army Reserves.

Thomas was a member of the Church of Christ and taught the adult bible classes for many years. He was on the board of directors for Camp Lu-Jo KISMIF. He loved to do benevolent work and was a true friend to his neighbors.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Fratis Sheppard Newsom and Othella Faye Cooper Newsom. He was the beloved father of Larry Jerome Newsom and Christie Newsom Jones.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Mary Nell, of the home; son Larry Newsom and daughter-in-law Angelique of Tifton, GA and their three children Nicole Newsom Jacobik of Tallahassee, FL, Carly Anne Newsom of Carrollton, GA, and Brantley Newsom of Tifton, GA. Thomas is also survived by his daughter Christie Newsom Jones and son-in-law James Jones and their three children Ethan, Blake, and Andrew of Frisco, Texas.
