Tommy Gunn

It is with great sadness that the family of Tommy Ray Gunn announces his unexpected passing from his time on earth Saturday, October 15, 2022 at the age of 64. It is with great joy that we celebrate his entry into the joy of his Savior and his eternal home in heaven.

Tommy was born on February 28, 1958 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Jewell and Donald Gunn, Jr. He was a high school graduate of Empire High School, Class of 1976. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University where he played baseball and graduated in 1987 with a Bachelors of Arts in Religion.

Tommy married his high school sweetheart, Kathy Johnson. Together they had two children- Rusty Gunn and Brande Richardson.

Tommy dedicated his life to the Lord and served as the Music Minister at Fair Baptist Church of Duncan, Oklahoma; Rock Creek Baptist Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma; First Baptist Church of Cuero, Texas; Ashford Baptist Church in Houston, Texas; Oak Grove Baptist Church of Cushing Oklahoma; and First Baptist Church of Artesia, New Mexico.

Tommy used his voice and talents to share the love of Jesus. He had an incredible gift of writing and producing pageants where he brought the words and stories of the Bible to life. He radiated with kindness and His love of the Lord was undeniable.

Tommy was an employee of Holly Energy Partners in Wichita Falls where he recently received the Presidential Award recognizing his work. He always had a love of classic cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and taking trips to see the beauty of God’s creation. He was a loving and dedicated father and grandfather and spent most of his time off with his family beside him.

Although his time on earth has passed, Tommy’s legacy will continue to shine through his children and grandchildren as they too have a heart for serving the Lord.

Tommy will be lovingly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Megan Gunn of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; his daughter and son-in-law, Brande and Cody Richardson of La Vernia, Texas; six grandchildren - Gatlin, 12-Gage, Bristol (BB), and Colt-45 Gunn and Kasia and Leighton Mae Richardson; his sister, Julie White, of Porterville, California; brother, Danny Gunn, of North Carolina; nieces Beverly McAlister and Taylor Andrade; nephews Billy Don Shipman, Don Gunn, Tyler White.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Gunn, Jr; his mother Jewell Gunn; and sister, Donna Shipman.

The Celebration of Life Service for Tommy Gunn will be held 10:00 am, Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Fair Baptist Church, Duncan, OK, followed by interment at Duncan Municipal Cemetery. Jackie Allen will Officiate under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters, OK. Visitation will be held at Whitt Funeral Home, Duncan, OK on Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 pm.
